Study portrait for Dr Johnson Statue
Bronze 2009

Lifesize Ė Constructed from observation of Samuel Johnsonís death mask and from contemporaneous images made of him, to discover how Dr Johnson probably looked in his mid-fifties.

Commissioning a portrait sculpture:

The price of a portrait bust in bronze on a stone or marble base is from £6,000. Bronze is an excellent medium for its durability, visual warmth and accuracy in casting, but there are alternatives. The work begins in clay, which usually requires eight sittings, preferably on a regular basis over a six or eight week period, but the sitter's availability can be accommodated.

"When the sculpted portrait is completed, the structure must be entirely convincing in reality so that when the sitter walks away their persona and character are so woven into the portrait, that it is immediately recognisable as being a study uniquely of that person".
